Default turbo search

i am looking for a turbo to support 400whp on my extremely inefficient ford. i have a fully build focus 2.0 zetec and am currently at 353whp with a garrett t3/to4e 50trim stage 5 .63 ar w/ 360 thrust bearing. i am looking for a bb for my next turbo and have been looking at either the gtk series or a t3/t4 hybrid.

there isnt any one that i know of that has used a gtk series on a focus. so i am not sure what size i would need. gtk500 would be my guess. most people just use a gt series turbo on a focus but i would really like to use a turbonetics as my next. what would the gtk's compare to as far as gt series.

also there are a couple people with on going projects using T3/T4, 60-1, stage 5 turbo's to make 400whp. but they have yet to finish and see the results. how would this turbo compare to the gtk series.

thanks
tim

Well given your current turbo specs I would look at the GT-K 550 actually. It uses an updated 10 blade version of the T3 Stage 5 turbine wheel you currently run so spool up would be inline or better then what you have now. On the compressor side the GT-K 550 uses a GTK61 compressor wheel. This is essentially a newly designed version of the 60-1 compressor wheel that is far more efficient and would outflow a 60-1 wheel. That turbo is rated to flow out to 600 Crank HP or so and that should more then put you in the range you are looking for.

The GT-K should match or improve on that boost threshold.

i have been looking around and people are saying a gtk500 spools slower than a gt3076r... if that is so then i may end up going with something else.

here is dyno of a gt3071r on a focus... it spools to slow for me. mine is about as slow as i want.

any suggestions or advice on this.

Where exactly are they getting that data? The GT-K 500 has a pretty appropriately sized turbine wheel in the form of a F1 T3 Stage 3 turbine wheel. You could go with a F1 T3 Stage 2 in a custom configuration if you are really worried about. My only concern is that 400 WHP would be getting to the upper limit of what the Stage 2 turbine wheel could flow without backpressure. However if as you said lag is your biggest concern run the F1 T3 Stage 2 in a custom turbo config with the GTK61 compressor wheel.

thanks for all the help but i am still exploring my options

few more questions

so a gtk550 is basically the same as a t3/60-1?

how would the gtk's and my turbo (t3/to4e 50 trim .63 thrust) compare to the t3/60-1 bb with the same turbine as mine?

for the price of the gtk i could get the bb 60-1 and a new intercooler.

No a GT-K 500 is comparable to a 60-1/T3 Stage 3. A GT-K 550 is comparable to a 60-1/T3 Stage 5. But neither are the same. The GT-K 500 and GT-K 550 use a GTK61 compressor wheel which is a completely different and brand new design than the 60-1. If you were to use the exact same turbine you have but a 60-1 compressor spool up would probably slow very slightly but the air flow potential would dramatically increase.

so if i used the same turbine with the 60-1 compressor and also went from journal bearing to ball bearing i would decrease spool time and increase its potential to make power.

if so i may have found my turbo!

here are a few different turbos on a focus. the set ups are different so the spool will vary but its a general idea or what i am working with.

also they guy that tuned by car said the t3/60-1 would not make any more power than the turbo i have right now???
