Default Audi S2 What turbo?

Hello

Great side btw.

Now too the question:
My car Audi S2 -91
Engine: motor code 3b
Volume: 2.2l
Totally rebuild with
Carillo rods and Je Pistons
Cylinder rebuild aswell fully ported too the max.
Extractor manifolds.
Titanium retainers
Harder Valve Springs
Camshafts redone with a better momentun curve most like the RS2 cam but better.

Now what turbo should i look at iam very intressted in the
GTK 550 but iam some worried about turbo lag, when would the estimated
spool up be around at?
My goals is about 600bhp
And i want my car too be fun on the streets and track usefull!
I guess that the GTK550 would have full spool at least att 4000rpm am i right?it would be nice if it started around 3000rpm.
I will run a boost around 2.3-2.8bar pressure!

Will that turbo work out for me or doo you have some other ideas?

Regards Anders From Sweden Stockholm

With a goal of 600 HP I don't think you'll want to go any smaller than the GT-K 550. Unfortunately power and spool up are always going to be a trade off. The GT-K 550 uses a F1 T3 Stage V turbine which is the largest T3 turbine available. On 2.2 L of displacement I would typically be a bit concerned about spool up. I'd say you can expect it to hit full boost in the 4000 RPM range but where will depend entirely on the amount of exhaust gas your car produces with the head work and cams. If you had any lower goals for power I would have recommended a GT-K 500 as it can get you very close to 600 HP but uses a smaller turbine (F1 T3 Stage 3) which would spool up faster. I'm just concerned you may not hit your hp goal due to turbine backpressure at that level. In my opinion your best choice would be the GT-K 550 since you stated 600 HP is your goal.

Hi

thanx for the fast answer

Well it was as i suspected...
Iam walking around the GTK 500-GTK550...
On these cars 500hp isn?t that much too be cool with

But if it will have full spool after 4000rpm i would be a bit disapointed...
Damm this isnt easy.
But isnt the housings the same on both turbos?

But if it can make 500bhk on the wheels GTK500 then iam satisfied but will the top end performance be affected? I mean it will have a rev limit around 8300rpm how much would it drop give or take say i have a boost at 2.5bar can it hold that boost o will it drop under 2bar or stay somewhat above it?

Regards Anders

I don't think you'll see top end affected much at 500 HP on the GT-K 500. The F1 T3 Stage 3 flows very well and regardless I think you'll be much happier with the spool up on the smaller turbine. EXD's Saab is making 480+ BHP on a GT-K 450 which is the same turbine as the GT-K 500 but with a smaller compressor. You should see his post here:
http://www.turboneticsownersclub.com...r=asc&start=30
With the same turbine as the GT-K 500 he is having NO issues with hitting full boost or holding it. Your car should spool up in a similar fashion but will have a higher HP potential. He anticipates he will make in excess of 500 BHP with the GT-K 450 so you can expect well in excess of the same on the GT-K 500.

I have read the post you gave me.
I have been in contact with him earilier this year
That was some great numbers he showed.
Now there is no question on what turbo i will choose.
I will make an order on GTK500 and take it from there.
I rekon it will make my goal on 500hk on the wheels if not then i will make it faster in the corners Will post the results later on and some build pics.
Soo you can enjoy some engine porn

Keep it up.
And i am soo thankful for the VERY fast answer. The clock in sweden is 22:37 before midnight

Progress will follow in the same thread or if i make an new one?

Regards Anders

Glad I could help you out. Please do keep us updated on your car's progress. We have a garage section to so you may add your cars and list the modifications to it individually and link it to people to see all the work including pics of what is done to your car. For an example click the 350Z link below my screen name.

The Turbonetics T04E Super 60 with a/r .81 P-trim is a good choice for this setup. We have seen 609 hp. on 102 octan racefuel (European octane numbers) with this one. Go with std. bearing and dry housing. Hard to get more bang for the bucks!

Anyone any experience or thoughts on the stroker kits that 034 do for these engines ??

Ups the stroke to around 91/92mm.....seems a lot compared to the 81/82mm bore size ?? taking capacity to around 2400.

Isnt a lot of money though.

You can use the 92.8 mm crank, or even the Tdi-crank with 95.5 mm. stroke. The best powerband you will get using the Tdi bottom end together with the 20v cylinderhead. The taller Tdi-block (232 mm block height instead of 220 mm), the 159 mm rods and custom pistons in 81.5 mm diametre is a good combination. Try the S2-forum for details. http://www.s2forum.com/

Interesting.....

So a Tdi block bolts straight in, in place of the ( I think he said AAN ) engine ?

I havent looked much at his car yet, although its circa 96/97 S6.

Eventually...it will have a GTK-550......although its already been sitting here for a year lol
